A little guidance.
A lot of possibility.

A starting place for conversations about home education, family life and learning together.

South African home education

Start with the official guidance.

Parents choosing home education for a learner subject to compulsory attendance must apply to their provincial education department for registration. Parents remain responsible for implementing their child’s home education.

Centre arrangements require specific review. The DBE’s June 2025 implementation guidance discusses restrictions on full-time tuition at centres. Our proposed operating model needs review with KZN education officials and an appropriate legal adviser. A “community centre” label alone does not settle its legal classification.

Questions families ask

Is the Cove a registered school?

No. It is a planned community initiative. Its final operating model and any necessary registrations have not been determined.

Can our family join now?

You can express interest and explore the adult community hub. The physical centre is not open.

Who is responsible for homeschooling?

Parents retain responsibility under their applicable home education arrangements. The Cove cannot replace those responsibilities.

Will fees be charged?

A future monthly contribution is being considered. No fee schedule, formal enrolment or payment collection is active.

Can children have social hub accounts?

The initial hub is for verified parents and approved adults only. Children connect through family participation; independent child profiles and private messaging are disabled.
